The Curriculum
Baccalaureate-level social work curriculum requires a liberal arts education because this perspective insures that students develop broad understandings of human nature and the human condition as well as critical thinking and communication skills. All School of Arts & Sciences (SAS) students must complete the SAS Core Curriculum. In addition, social work majors must complete 27 credits of study in related disciplines and 43 credits of social work professional foundation courses taken during their junior and senior years. The Social Work Department also offers elective courses in areas of specialization not covered in depth by required courses.
Students wishing to minor in social work must complete 12 credits of required professional foundation courses and 6 credits chosen from the social work elective course offerings.
