Request form that has been completed by
the visiting patron’s library after a

lending library.

Traditionally, items are
placed on Reserve in Gill Library at the
request of CNR instructors to facilitate
access to assigned readings for the students
currently enrolled in their course(s).
Administrators also request that certain
College-related publications be placed on
Reserve to facilitate access to them for the
entire College Community.
Since the Fall 2005 semester,
Gill Library has offered
Electronic Reserves
(via Docutek ERes). Articles and other
documents the instructor provides are
scanned by the Library into ERes. Certain
articles can be linked to ERes from Gill
Library databases or the World Wide Web.
In addition to Electronic
Reserves, Gill Library continues to offer
traditional Reserves service by placing
physical items (books, videos, etc.) on
Reserve shelves behind the Main Desk that
may be checked-out for a
limited period
for in-Library use only.
Whether items are placed on
Electronic Reserve or “physical” Reserve,
CNR instructors must submit the appropriate
Reserves Request Form
to the Library. For physical material, they
may check the
Gill Library Online Catalog
to determine if the Library
owns a copy of the item.
-
The Library accepts
requests for the purchase of books,
videos, etc. to add to the collection;
however, ample time is needed to order
and process the items. Instructors
should include their course name and
number on the
Suggest a Title for
Purchase form.
-
Instructors may provide
personal copies of books, videos and
certain other items to place on Reserve
for the semester. The
Guidelines for Faculty
Submitting Requests for Reserves
state that items owned by other
libraries, borrowed directly or via
interlibrary loan, will not be placed on
Reserve.
-
To find the desired items
on Reserve in Gill Library, patrons may
search the
Gill Library Online
Catalog
or search

-
Students presenting a
valid CNR ID card may request 3 Reserve
items at a time by filling out a form
provided at the Library Circulation
Desk.

The copyright law of the
United States (Title 17, United States
Code) governs the making of photocopies
or other reproduction of copyrighted
materials. Under certain conditions
specified in the law, libraries and
archives are authorized to furnish a
photocopy or other reproduction. One of
these specified conditions is that the
photocopy or reproduction is not to be
used for any purpose other than private
study, scholarship, or research. If a
user makes a request for, or later uses,
a photocopy or reproduction for purposes
in excess of fair use, that user may be
liable for copyright infringement.
