DEIANEIRA
by Karina Yapur

Behind these walls,
I'm tired.
I'm tired of not being touched by your eyes.
Left ignored at home, I feel extremely alone.
I'm just the third pillow of your bed,
I'm just the servant that your father promised you would get.

Behind these walls,
I'm tired.
I'm tired of being an object in your home,
A plate, a chair, just a simple dress.
I'm just a housekeeper, nothing else,
I'm just the difference of my mother when she used to say...
“you'll be happy when he stays.”

Behind these walls,
I'm tired.
I'm tired of telling you I love you,
You watch my struggle but it does not matter.
I'm just the woman who gave you her dowry,
I'm just the ignorant daughter who provided you with fresh water.

Behind these walls...
I see the early morning
While you wait for the nights.
Behind these walls...
I see my destiny passing by,
It has a hit-man costume...
He laughs and makes fun of me
While you are taking care of me.
Behind these walls...
My life leaks away...
You honored me with your name
I'm with you but lonely.
Behind these walls...
I see the early morning.
