THE COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE PRESENTS
“SHIP OF FOOLS: PORTRAIT OF A CONFEDERATE NAVY”
AN EXHIBIT OF WORKS BY NATHANIEL HESTER

New Rochelle, NY, January 5, 2009 – “Ship of Fools: Portrait Of A Confederate Navy,” a solo exhibit of recent paintings and prints by North Carolina-based artist Nathaniel Hester, is currently on display at The College of New Rochelle’s (CNR) Mooney Center Exhibit Hall. The exhibit runs through Sunday, January 25, 2009. A closing reception will take place on January 25 from 3 – 5 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

According to the artist, the series of 100 paintings and 25 etchings, of which portions of each will be on display, were completed in 2006 at the height of our nation’s conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. “While the work employs abstract compositions to reveal the surprising cruelty and exhilarating beauty of 19th Century maritime battle in particular,” says Hester, “the pieces speak to the devastation of warfare throughout history.”

Hester earned a BA in Art and Art History at Rice University in Texas and an MFA from Boston University. His works have appeared in solo and group exhibits nationwide.

The Mooney Center Exhibit Hall is located at The College of New Rochelle, 29 Castle Place in New Rochelle, NY  10805.  Hours:  Monday-Thursday from 9 am to 9 pm, Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm.  For directions or information, please call (914) 654-5423 or click here.  Additional images available upon request.
