The Class of 2009 was formally
welcomed to the College at a midday
Freshman Convocation in Holy Family Chapel, Tuesday, September 6, 2005.

Associate Professor of
Nursing Geraldine Valencia-Go spoke on behalf of the faculty in
welcoming the students to the School of Arts & Sciences and the School
of Nursing.

Dean Richard H.
Thompson of the School of Arts & Sciences introduced the freshman
class, and Dean Donna J. Demarest of the School
of Nursing introduced the
students in the School of Nursing.

President Stephen J. Sweeny addressed the incoming students, referring
to noted anthropologist and author Margaret Mead, and her
ground-breaking book, Coming of Age
in Samoa, when presenting the students their class quote: “Never
doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change
the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

President Sweeny
encouraged this new freshmen class of The College of New Rochelle to do
just that with their college degree of CNR, go out and change the world.

The Freshman
class was introduced by each department, and then freshman entered
their names into the Matriculation Book.

As a welcoming gift, each student
received a portable memory stick to use with their new laptops.

Following
the Convocation, the freshman received their DELL Latitude laptops in
the Student Campus
Center, where members of Information Systems provided setup assistance
and basic operating instructions. This initiative
represents the culmination of a strategic institutional plan to enhance
the
technological resources and services for SAS and SN students.

Above: IS technician Eliot Bank makes sure that these new students will
be able to start the semester fully prepared to take advantage of CNR's
technological resources.
