PRE-LAW
The Pre-Law Program at The College of New Rochelle helps students
develop the ability to think and write critically and precisely in
order to enter law school after graduation. Offering a
strong foundation in the liberal arts, as well as pre-law courses
and internship opportunities, the Pre-Law Program provides students
with the skills law schools seek, while also educating them on the
law, the legal process, and legal careers.
Most students in the program take courses in legal theory, American
government, constitutional law, business law, and other courses that
sharpen analytical and writing skills, as well as enhance verbal comprehension
and expression. These courses reflect the ethical dimensions
of the legal profession and stress the importance of law and moral
analysis in a free society.
More specifically, the following courses are recommended:
- Law and the Courts
- Effective Reasoning
- Philosophy of Law
- Introduction to American Government
- Constitutional Law
- an introductory mathematics course
- a pre-law internship
Individualized attention is a great strength of CNR. As
a pre-law student, your pre-law advisor will serve as your resource
for information and advice. Working closely with you to
plan courses and programs of study, your advisor will assist you with
the law school application process. Recent graduates have
been accepted into some of the most prestigious law schools in the
country, including:
- Columbia University
- Fordham University
- St. John's University
- Pace University
- SUNY Albany
- New England School of Law
- The Catholic University of America
