PRE-HEALTH PROFESSIONS
Career opportunities in the health care field are more diverse than
ever before. Whether you are interested in becoming a physician,
dentist, veterinarian, physician's assistant, optometrist, podiatrist
or physical therapist, the Pre-Health Professions Program will provide
you with the necessary skills to pursue your career goals.
The Pre-Health Professions Program is designed to fulfill the requirements
of a major course of study while preparing students for entrance into
a variety of colleges of health-related professions and colleges of
basic medical sciences.
Guidance is given to students interested in applying to schools of:
- optometry
- podiatry
- osteopathy
- medical technology
- physical therapy (and allied health fields)
- health administration and graduate programs in medical and veterinary
colleges,
- pharmacology
- public health
Courses required for admission vary with each discipline, therefore,
the student's course of study should be constructed in consultation
with the Pre-Medicine/Pre-Health Advisor. Generally, recommended
courses include:
- Genetics
- Microbiology
- Molecular Biology
- Animal Physiology or Human Anatomy and Physiology
- Two years of chemistry
- One year of mathematics, including statistics or calculus
