“Attending The College of New Rochelle
meant a great deal to me. It was at
CNR that I learned how to be a responsible citizen. I still fondly
remember
my French professor, Sister Marie Helene. I loved and adored her. She
showed
me a great deal of compassion and understanding. I also am very
grateful
for my two Spanish professors, Joan Diaferia and Mireya
Perez-Erdelyi. I
believe my years at the College helped me developed emotionally,
educationally
and more importantly, I learned the art of giving oneself in service to
others.
That is why I eventually became a school teacher.
Thank you, CNR!”

Weaver
was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and came to the United States
when she was ten years old. Fluent in Creole, French, Spanish, and
English,
she graduated from CNR in May 1977 with a BA in French and Spanish,
then
went on to study at the Bank Street College of Education. She continued

Nicole
has taught French and Spanish for 25 years at the middle and high
school
levels.
As a veteran teacher of French and Spanish, she has already used her
experience
and knowledge to write a trilingual picture book, entitled Marie and
Her
Friend the Sea Turtle. It is the story of a little Haitian girl
who
resided
by the beach in Haiti. Of the book, reviewer Donna M. McDine, writing
in
the Journal of the National Writing
for Children Center, said, “Nicole
Weaver
reaches many cultures and pulls at children's hearts in their love and
wonderment
of the world around them.” Nicole’s second book, also a trilingual
children's
picture book, will soon be published by Guardian Angel Publishing, and
is
entitled, My Sister is my Best Friend.
