Dorothy
Walker is the
coordinator for the Recruitment and Retention of the HIV Vaccine Trials
Unit at Columbia University, Department of Medicine, Division of
Infectious Disease. She is responsible for the initiation,
implementation, and maintenance of a variety of recruitment and
retention strategies and community outreach activities which focus on
ongoing and upcoming AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), HIV Vaccine
Trials Network (HVTN), and industry--sponsored clinical trials and
related projects at The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) of Division of
Infectious Diseases. She coordinates such activities with the
Recruitment Coordinators and Community Education Coordinators at other
sites within the New York HIV Vaccine Trials Unit and the Columbia –
Harlem Family Center– ACTG AIDS Clinical Trials Unit.
As a community member of the Central Harlem
HIV Care Network, an
organization that provides HIV/AIDS services in the Central Harlem
area, she participates in yearly needs assessments, which identify gaps
in services. Some results have lead to legislative advocacy and
identified funding to address service needs.
