Jeannette, tell us
something about your family and where you are from?
My parents were both born in
Puerto Rico. I was born in New York City, and although my parents come
from a large family, I am an only child. I am a single parent of a
17-year-old son, and he is my only child.

Where did you go to
college for your undergraduate degree?
I attended the College’s School of New Resources in
Co-Op City. It's funny how I found out about CNR. I was with my friend
at a store near the Co-Op City Campus, and I went in to ask about the
school and immediately registered and graduated in January 2006 -- with
honors!! God works in mysterious ways!!

Why did you decide to
attend The College of New Rochelle?
The fact that the School of
New Resources is geared toward adult learners enables me to work
full-time, attend college full-time, and still do my regular full-time
job as a single mother.

Where do you attend
Graduate School classes?
I currently attend at the Main Campus. I decided to
continue my schooling here as I feel a certain loyalty to The College
of New Rochelle, after being so successful as an undergraduate.

What is your major?
Psychology, Guidance &
Counseling.

Do you have any favorite
teachers?
Absolutely!! Dr. Joseph
Biscoglio is a wonderful mentor, teacher and friend. He was my
first professor in graduate school, and I thank him for the wonderful
wealth of information he has shared with me. I also cannot forget Dr.
Marie Ribarich for her wit, intelligence and professionalism. I really
had an easy transitional experience from undergrad to graduate school
with these professors!

What has surprised you the
most about the Graduate School?
I’m not surprised about
anything. It has been a great journey for me, and I cannot believe how
much I am enjoying school! It has enabled me to come full circle,
and understand my past, my present and my future.

Do you have a job on
campus?
No. I’ve worked at a school
as a School Secretary for the last seven years. I actually began as a
paraprofessional two years prior, and have been a secretary for seven
years. Altogether at the Department of Education I have a total of nine
years of employment.

When do you expect to
graduate?
Based on the fact I began
graduate school this spring, I anticipate it will take me two years.

What are your career plans?
I intend to stay in education
as a Guidance Counselor when I obtain my graduate degree.
