THE COLLEGE
OF NEW ROCHELLE APPOINTS
FOUR NEW
MEMBERS TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
NEW ROCHELLE, NY, December 3, 2003 – The College of New Rochelle today
announced that four new members have joined the College’s Board of Trustees:
Sister Jeanne Brennan, O.S.U. ‘45, John F. Killian, Elizabeth LeVaca, and
Rev. Leo O’Donovan, S.J. Each will serve a three-year term.
“We have been extremely fortunate with the wise counsel and generous support
that trustees have provided to the College in years past,” remarked Dr.
Stephen J. Sweeny, President of The College of New Rochelle. “We
have no doubt that the four newest trustees will play a key role in the
College’s future success as we continue in our milestone Centennial year.”
Sister Jeanne Brennan, OSU ‘45
An Ursuline,
an alumna, a former faculty member, and past trustee of CNR, Sister Jeanne
Brennan brings a rich history to her role on the Board of Trustees.
She is currently Spiritual Director and Retreat Coordinator for the Ursuline
Associates. In addition to her undergraduate degree from CNR, Sr.
Jeanne received a master’s in education from Fordham University and a master’s
in pastoral counseling from Iona College.
John F. Killian
John Killian
is the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Domestic Telecom,
for Verizon Communications, where he is responsible for finance and strategic
planning for the company’s largest business unit. Mr. Killian has
also handled corporate-wide accounting, public finance reporting, budget
analysis and customer operations for the northern half of the country in
his other positions at Verizon. In his nearly 25 years in the telecommunications
industry, Mr. Killian has also held senior management positions at Bell
Atlantic and NYNEX. He was formerly a CPA with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell
& Co. Mr. Killian has served on industry trade associations and
civic organizations focused on the well-being of New England residents.
He was graduated from Providence College with a bachelor’s degree and from
Bentley College with a master’s degree.
Elizabeth B. LeVaca
The daughter
of alumna Mary Fischer Bell ’34, Elizabeth LeVaca is a generous and enthusiastic
supporter of CNR. A registered nurse, Ms. LeVaca was graduated from
the Catholic University of America with a baccalaureate in nursing, and
earned certificates as a clinical nursing specialist and as a nurse practitioner.
She has been a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the Nursing Honor Society, for
more than two decades. The mother of two, Ms. LeVaca is a current
board member for the AIDS/HIV Services Group and a past board member of
Hospice of DC.
Reverend Leo O’Donovan, S.J.
The President
of Georgetown University from 1989-2001 and Professor of Theology, Father
O’Donovan has had a long, distinguished career as an educator, theologian,
and author. The recipient of numerous honorary degrees and awards,
Father O’Donovan has been published extensively in religious and academic
periodicals and journals, has edited five books and has lectured throughout
the world. With a long history of service on academic, community
and corporate boards, Father O’Donovan currently serves on the Advisory
Board of Corpus Christi School in New York City, the Campaign Steering
Committee of Weston Jesuit School of Theology, and the Board of Directors
of the Walt Disney Company. Father O’Donovan was graduated from Georgetown
University with an A.B. degree, Fordham University with a Ph.L. degree,
Woodstock College with S.T.L. and S.T.B. degrees and University of Munster
(West Germany) with a doctorate in theology.

The first Catholic college for women in New York State, The College
of New Rochelle was founded in 1904 by the Ursuline Order. Today, it comprises
the all-women School of Arts & Sciences, and three schools which admit
women and men: the School of New Resources (for adult learners), the School
of Nursing and the Graduate School. The main campus of the College
is located in lower Westchester County, 16 miles north of New York City.
