CNR DRAMA LAUNCHES NEW THEATRICAL SEASON WITH “CINDERELLA”

NEW ROCHELLE, NY, June 22, 2006 -- To mark its third consecutive year of offering quality summer entertainment for young children, CNR Drama -- the student-run drama group at The College of New Rochelle -- will present Rodgers & Hammerstein’s timeless musical, “Cinderella.”  Performances are slated for:

·    7:00 pm evening shows on July 21, July 22, July 28, and July 29
·    2:00 pm matinees on July 22, July 23, July 29, and July 30

All shows will take place in Romita Theatre on CNR’s Main Campus located at 29 Castle Place in New Rochelle, NY, 10805.  General admission $12.50; children under age 12 and seniors with I.D. $10.  For tickets and group sales, call (914) 654-5373 or go to www.cnrdrama.org. Directions are at: www.cnr.edu/CNR/cnr-directions.html

The New Rochelle production features CNR Honors student Rochelle Thompson (Queens resident, SAS ’07) as Cinderella and Philip Degaltini (Bronx resident, Iona Prep student) as her Prince.  The incoming President of CNR Drama for 2006-2007, Ms. Thompson has appeared in previous CNR Drama productions such as "Oleanna,” "Cabaret,” and "Amahl."  Also in the cast are current students and alumni of CNR Drama such as Jessica Bittner, Steve Loftus, JoAnna Marchetti, Tanya Wills, Ken Anders, Yvonne Armstrong, Cynthia Echefu, Rebecca Feliciano, Danielle Peets, Kris Wheeler, Shyolanda James, and Sal Castiglione.  “Cinderella” is directed by Laurie Peterson Castaldo with sets and lights by Raffaele A. Castaldo.

When it was originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium.  Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren and in 1997 starring Brandy were no less successful in transporting new generations to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true.  As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.

CNR Drama’s first production as “The Dramatic Society” was Tennyson’s The Princess performed on June 12, 1906. Today, CNR Drama has the distinction of being the campus club with the longest uninterrupted tenure in the College’s history.
