THE COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE TO HOST
SIXTH ANNUAL CHILD WELFARE PANEL
IN RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

NEW ROCHELLE, NY, April 18, 2007 – In recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Social Work Department of the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) at The College of New Rochelle (CNR) will host its sixth annual event focusing on child welfare. Child Welfare Panel: The Power of Social Work is scheduled for Monday, April 23, from 2:00 to 4:30 pm at the Student Campus Center located on the College’s Main Campus in New Rochelle.  This event is open to the public, students, and social work practitioners; there is no charge to attend. Under the direction of Nilda E. Hernandez, Ph.D., LCSW-R, Associate Professor in the SAS Social Work Department, the panel will feature CNR graduates of the Baccalaureate Social Work Program who are currently working in the child welfare field, providing foster care, legal advocacy, counseling, and emergency housing services to children and families. The panelists will include:

•    Chantel Chenault, Senior Clinical Care Manager, Community Housing
      Innovations, Inc.

•    Zakiya A. Thomas, Assistant Court Supervisor, PINS Diversion Program,
      The Children’s Aid Society

The School of Arts & Sciences, established in 1904, continues its tradition of enrolling only women. It offers undergraduate degrees in all traditional disciplines of liberal arts and sciences and a number of professional fields.
