NAMES NEW SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT
NEW ROCHELLE, NY,
April 18, 2007 – Dr. Stephen J. Sweeny,
president of The College of New Rochelle (CNR), has announced the
appointment of Dr. Dorothy Escribano
as the College’s Senior Vice
President for Academic Affairs, effective July 1, 2007. As the chief
academic officer of the College, Dr. Escribano will supervise the
operations of the College’s four schools, the library, and various
academic support services. She will report directly to the president as
a member of the Executive Team. She succeeds Dr. Joan Bailey, who has
held the position since 1997.
“Dr. Escribano will bring to us her
experience of more than 20 years of service in higher education,” said
Dr. Sweeny. “Her enthusiasm for women’s education, in support of our
Catholic heritage, for the primacy of the liberal arts and sciences,
and for our commitment to building community from diversity will
position her well to promote our mission in her responsibilities in
this key institutional position.”
Dr. Escribano comes to CNR from Worcester State College,
Worcester, MA, where she served as interim Vice President for Academic
Affairs and tenured member of the Languages and Literature Department.
She had been the College’s Associate Vice President for Academic
Affairs since 2002 and held an American Council on Education (ACE)
Fellowship for Administrative Leadership at the University of Rhode
Island, under the mentorship of the President, in the academic year
2004-05.
She holds a BA in Spanish from Marist College, an MA in
Liberal Studies (concentration in Special Education) from SUNY Stony
Brook, and an MA in Spanish Literature from the University of Rhode
Island. Dr. Escribano earned her Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies from
Brown University.

Order.

schools which admit women and men: the School of New Resources (for
adult
learners), the School of Nursing and the Graduate School. The
