THE COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE TO HOST
36TH ANNUAL STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL

NEW ROCHELLE, NY, April 8, 2008 – The College of New Rochelle’s (CNR) 36th annual Strawberry Festival has something special for family members of all ages. On Sunday, May 4, from 12 noon to 5 pm on Maura Lawn on CNR’s Main Campus at 29 Castle Place in New Rochelle, the College will host a fun-filled day of outdoor activities, music, entertainment, and strawberry treats. Admission is free; there is a charge for food and rides.

This year CNR Drama will entertain youngsters – and the young at heart – with a “Frog and Toad” puppet show in the Rose Garden. Also new will be a photo booth where visitors can take pictures in a giant chair. There will be face painting, a carousel, gladiator joust, moon bounce house, giant slide, and much more.

Fourth Generation Entertainment Company will provide music ranging from Big Band and pop to salsa and R&B. Vendors displaying jewelry and other craft items will be on hand to satisfy shoppers and browsers alike. Other entertainment will include performances by CNR’s Black Ice Step Team and Blue Angels Cheerleaders, as well as a belly dancing demonstration. Refreshments for sale will include chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry smoothies, and strawberry shortcake, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, popcorn and snow cones.
The Strawberry Festival, introduced to CNR in 1972, is the single largest event organized entirely by the College’s undergraduates. The concept of the Strawberry Festival originated in the mid-west during the 1890’s as an American festival celebrating the ripening of strawberries, the blooming of lilacs, and the coming of summer.
