NEW ROCHELLE, NY, April 1, 2003 –The College of New Rochelle (CNR) today announced that Angela Cascarano, a 2001 graduate of the School of Arts & Sciences, was part of a FOX 5 News team honored at the recent awards ceremony for the National Television Academy’s 46th Annual New York Emmy Awards.  Ms. Cascarano, an associate producer, was involved in an Investigative Journalism piece entitled “Fake Rabbi.”  She participated in a sting operation set up to catch Jerry Heller, a former car salesman, who has performed thousands of marriages over the past three decades while misrepresenting himself as an ordained rabbi.

The April 2002 broadcast of “Fake Rabbi” prompted hundreds of viewers to contact FOX 5, including many who were unaware that their marriages were a sham until they saw the segment.  Due to the enormous response to this segment, the New York and New Jersey state legislatures recently passed bills to validate all marriages performed to date by Mr. Heller.

The National Television Academy, founded in 1946, is a non-profit organization that fosters creative excellence in the television industry.  The NTA inspires excellence through the renowned EMMY Award, the most prestigious honor and most coveted peer-recognition symbol of distinction in television.
