Inaugural Lecture
Highlights Race and Adult Education

The authors of The Handbook of Race and Adult Education participated
in a panel discussion, “Race and Adult Education: Engaging A Dialogue
on Racism" on February 22-23, 2012 at The College of New Rochelle.
The Handbook of Race and Adult
Education
is the first comprehensive work to engage in a dialogue specifically
about race and racism and the effect these factors have on the
marginalization or oppression of groups and individuals.

Pechin
Collects HVWAC and AD3I Accolades

Freshman guard Alyssa Pechin has been
named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) women's
basketball
Player of the Week for the second time, and Hudson Valley Women's
Athletic
Conference (HVWAC) Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season.
She also earned a place on the First Team All-HVWAC. m o r e

Coach Susan Kern
Awarded HVWAC Coach of the Year
The College of New
Rochelle women's basketball team finished their 2011-2012 season with a
loss to number one seed St. Joseph's Brooklyn. After the game,
the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference announced that CNR Head
Coach Susan Kern is the HVWAC 2011-2012 Coach of the Year. The
second year coach led the Blue Angels to an 8-17 record and a fourth
place finish in the HVWAC, after a 2-18 record the previous
season. This is the first time Kern has received this honor.
From HVWAC: The College
of New Rochelle head coach Susan Kern was selected by her peers as the
2011-2012 Coach of the Year. In her second year at the helm of the Blue
Angels, Kern squad saw a four-fold improvement, going from a two-win
campaign last season to eight wins and a fourth place conference finish

Dr.
Kenneth J. Doka, Professor of Gerontology in the Graduate
School, completed a week-long speaking tour of Southwest Florida in
January
2012. In Tampa, Sarasota, Fort Myers, and Naples, Dr. Doka
presented on a
variety of topics including “Generational Differences in End-of-Life
Care” and “End-of-Life
Ethics.” In November 2011, Dr. Doka spoke on cultural diversity
and
end-of-life ethics at a special symposium of the University of Antalya
in
Turkey. In October 2011, he presented in both Melbourne and
Sydney,
Australia on gender differences in grief as well as in Kingston,
Jamaica on
adolescents and loss.
Dr. Deborah Hunt,
Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing,
authored the article Is it Addison’s
disease or Cushing syndrome? in
the January 2012 edition of American
Nurse Today.
Dr. Daniel McCarthy,
Associate
Professor of Political Science in the School of Arts & Sciences,
presented a paper, "No Sheeple Left Behind: Christian Apocalyptic
Literature and the New
World Order Conspiracy," at the 2011 meeting of the Northeastern
Political
Science Association. The conference was held on November 17-19, 2011 in
Philadelphia.
Dr.
Amy Meyers,
Assistant Professor of Social Work in the School of Arts &
Sciences,
conducted a six-session training on Sibling Abuse Assessment and
Intervention
from November to December 2011 at the Westchester County Department of
Social
Services. She also presented on Sibling Abuse Risk and
Resilience at the
Council of Social Work Education held in Atlanta, GA and Portland, OR.
Dr.
Meyers also co-conducted a workshop, "Bullying: A Parent’s Guide," at
St. Apostle Church in New York City.
On December 4, 2011, Robert
Wolf,
Professor
of Art in the Graduate School, participated in a 'Silent Art Auction'
for the benefit of the National Psychological Association for
Psychoanalysis
(NPAP) in New York City. On December 11, 2011, he was on a panel of
psychoanalysts discussing a case of a man who had been suffering from
war-induced trauma. The panel discussion was part of a seminar series
sponsored by NPAP on the topic of "How
We Work." He continues to restore old
photographs for the Theodor
Reik Archive, sponsored by NPAP.
