CNR Ends Centennial Year with Grand Celebration

It was a year that celebrated a century – a century of magnificent vision, a century of great achievement, and a century of tremendous growth for The College of New Rochelle. The College of New Rochelle has much to celebrate, and indeed, over the course of the last year, a grand celebration has taken place. The culmination of that very special year was memorable as well, as during a September weekend nearly 1,500 faculty, staff, students, alumnae/i, and friends were on hand to celebrate the College once more at a gala dinner dance and a mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City the following day.

Alumna Releases CD
Dedicated to 9/11 Orphans

Alumna Dr. Kathleen Reilly Fallon ’90 has just released "Heavenly Lullabies," a CD dedicated to the 63 babies born to widowed mothers of September 11 and the nearly 1,000 children who lost one or both parents in the tragedy. Inspired by her experiences as a foot and ankle surgeon who treated firefighters, police, and emergency workers at St. Paul’s Chapel, just one block from Ground Zero, in the weeks following September 11, Kathy, along with her husband James, produced the CD in their home sound studio in Armonk, NY.  The CD contains 24 songs, including the Irish lullabies “Gaelic Cradle Song,” and “Toora, Loora, Loora,” and “Guardian Angel Prayer,” a poem for which Kathy wrote original music.

CNR Peer Minister
Spotlighted in Local News

The September 9 issue of The Standard Star, a local New Rochelle newspaper, featured a story on CNR sophomore Tiarra Lopez, who is one of 18 peer ministers at the College.  In the article, Tiarra spoke about wanting to be part of a group that could “really make a difference” in the lives of fellow students and explained the importance of “reflective listening,” a skill essential to the development of a peer minister.  A native of Queens, NY, Tiarra plans to remain in the field of education after college, hoping one day to become a school principal.

Professional Activities
Dr. Maria Zubritski, instructional staff member at the School of New Resources’ Rosa Parks Campus has published  a new book The Professor and His Muse, an allegory of comment and invention.  It is the story of an adjunct professor who day dreams while correcting his students’ papers – day dreams that take him to places such as New York City, Venice, Paris, and Montego BayThe Professor and His Muse is published by Xlibris.

Dr. Cynthia Kraman, Associate Professor of English, School of Arts and Sciences, delivered her paper “Jonah as Tyro in the Middle English ‘Patience’” at the International Medieval Congress in Leeds, England in July.  In September Dr. Kraman participated in Poets for Peace, reading her poetry at The Bowery Poetry Club in New York City.
