New York State Assemblyman George Latimer Visits CNR Campus to Raise Awareness of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking

On October 19, 2006, for the second consecutive year, New York State Assemblyman George Latimer visited The College of New Rochelle’s Main Campus to help raise awareness of domestic violence; October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month nationwide

Lorenzo Harrison is Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contracts Compliance Programs (OFCCP), Northeast Region. OFCCP is responsible for enforcement of Executive Order 11246, Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Vietnam Era Readjustment Assistance Act, and other laws requiring federal contractors to provide equal employment opportunity regardless of race, gender, color, religion, national origin, disability, or Vietnam-era veteran status.

Lorenzo holds a Master’s Degree in Pubic Administration from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service where he was a Sloan Fellow. He was also awarded a fellowship to the prestigious Kellogg National Leadership Program in 1997.

Lorenzo has been married for 24 years to his wife Glenda. He has a daughter and son, and three grandchildren.

Dr. Connie Vance, Professor in the School of Nursing, received the 2006 Humanitarian Award on October 4, 2006 from Hope for a Healthier Humanity and the Pan American Catholic Health Care Network. This award was given to Dr. Vance for her work on behalf of community health education in the Caribbean and Central America.


Dr. James T. Schleifer, Dean of Gill Library and Professor of History, is internationally recognized for his scholarship on Alexis de Tocqueville and Tocqueville's famous analysis of American culture and politics, "Democracy in America." In October he gave the keynote address at an international conference, "Tocqueville and the West," held at the University of Calabria, in Rende. The conference brought together scholars from Italy, Spain, France and the United States and was sponsored by the University of Calabria, the Italian Political Science Association, and the Italian Foreign Ministry. Dr. Schleifer was the only American scholar invited to the gathering. His paper was titled: "Tocqueville and America: Lessons from the New World Republic."


Dr. Kenneth Doka, Professor of Gerontology in the Graduate School spoke at a number of national conferences in the month of October. In Saginaw, Michigan on October 13, he spoke on “Pain of the Heart”; on the 19th he spoke in Toronto on “Challenging the Paradigm: New Understandings of Grief; on the 24th he spoke at the Cerebral Palsy Conference on “Grief and Intellectual Disabilities; then traveled to Korea on the 30th to speak on “Education about Loss and Death. On November 2, he was in Kyoto, Japan speaking on “Grief through the Lifecycle.”


A solo art show by Katrina Rhein, Castle Gallery Manager, entitled "Sweet Rewards: Relapse" was on display at The College of New Rochelle’s (CNR) Mooney Center Exhibit Hall in October.
