members and guests of the New York State Minority Task Force for a
round-table discussion of health disparities in the Bronx and
Westchester. Among the presenters was Dr. Joan Arnold, professor of

2006 International
Plunge
The third International Plunge to the Brownsville, Texas
and Matamoros, Mexico missions took place
over the semester break. The group was led by Helen Wolf, Director of
Campus Ministry. Marie Serina, Director of Health Services for the
College, Suzette Walker, Campus Minister, Tiffani Blake, Assistant
Director of Student Activities, and Silvana Bajana, Director of
Purchasing for CNR, also accompanied the students. m

CNR’s Gospel Choir will sing
at a 2 p.m. Liturgy
at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Sunday, Feb. 5, as part of
an ensemble choir for the Archdiocesan celebration of Black History
Month. In addition, the Choir has
been asked to sing a prelude at 1:45 pm on the steps of the main altar.

Dr. Kristin
Berman, Assistant Professor in the Division
of Education of the Graduate School, this past January served as “Artist
in Residence” at Oakwood Elementary School in Peoria, Arizona.
She worked with grades K-7 in integrating literacy, science and social
studies with techniques of shadow theatre that culminated in a
performance of student created pieces for the school community. In
March, Dr. Berman will speak at a conference for the International
Independent school community in Santiago, Chile
on using the arts in education as a means to learn English.
Isola
Kokumo, Instructional Staff at the Co-Op City
Campus of SNR, was the keynote speaker at a meeting of Pan African
Peoples Assemblies for Social, Education, and Economic Development. The
“Kick Off Session” Reception was held at Windows over Harlem on October 26, 2005. Professor Kokumo’s
presentation was entitled “How to Positively Impact Current Problems
in Africa.”
Dr.
Kenneth J. Doka, Professor of Gerontology in the GraduateSchool,
was one of twenty-five participants from nine nations who met in Hawaii in
November, 2005, to discuss issues of remains missing in military
action. Dr. Doka was invited by the U.S. Department of Defense and
spoke on the importance of physical remains in Western Culture. Other
nations involved in this special conference were India, Israel,
Vietnam,
China, Russia, South
Korea, Laos,
and Japan.
Dr.
Amy Bass, Assistant Professor of History and
Director of the Honors Program in the School of Arts & Sciences,
is attending
the
2006 Winter Olympic Games held in Torino, Italy from February
13-29, 2006. Dr.
Bass
is sending behind-the-scenes details back to a special "CNR at The
Winter Games" website that features an online diary so we can read
first-hand of her
experiences. An additional Q & A section has been added so she will
be able to directly interact with CNR students during the course of the

Dr.
William Maxwell, Professor of Art in the School of
Arts & Sciences, was recently invited to be on the Board of
Advisors at the Hudson
Valley Center for Contemporary Art. Dr.
Maxwell also serves on the Board of Directors for the Peekskill
Education Foundation and the Advisory Board for the Peekskill Arts
Council.

Dawn Cillo
SAS ’87 has been selected for the NCAA Women's Basketball
Division III 25th Anniversary Team. Dawn was nominated as one of
the five players to the top team. The top team and coach will be
honored throughout the championship season. The goal of the
celebration is to educate and increase awareness about women's
intercollegiate athletics by honoring the past and looking forward to
the future.
Dawn served
on the CNR basketball team from 1983-1986 and
was selected Division III All American in 1985 when CNR
participated in the Division III Championship game. She
graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business
administration and worked in CNR's Office of Admission for one
year before launching her career in the healthcare field. Dawn
spent eleven years at Calvary Hospital and four years at Beth
Abraham. She is currently the Manager of Support Services for the
Visiting Nurse Service of New York. Dawn is a Bronx, New York,
resident and coaches her two children, 13-year-old Jessica and
11-year-old Matthew, in basketball.
The top 5 players will be announced on February 7, and special
thanks go out to all who voted for Dawn.

The Westchester
Biennial 2006
April 2 – June 18,
2006
Castle Gallery’s Westchester Biennial will celebrate a
milestone this
year with its fifth biennial juried art exhibition. This exhibit,
which showcases recent work by emerging and established Westchester
County artists, was created in 1998 in an attempt to recognize the
diversity and innovation of artists who call Westchester County their
home. The work selected must be new work created in the last two
years. This exhibition is unique, as it is the only venue of its
kind open exclusively to Westchester artists. Deadline for
submissions is February 13,

for a CNR Scholarship
The College of New Rochelle is inviting CNR alumnae/i, to nominate a
graduating high school senior to be the recipient of an Alumnae/i Award
for study at CNR beginning in the fall of 2006. The total award for
four years is $32,000 for a resident student and $20,000 for a student
who chooses to be a commuter. Please click
