President Sweeny
Reappointed President of CNR
CNR Board of
Trustees voted unanimously to renew
Dr. Stephen
J. Sweeny’s contract as President through 2009. In making the
announcement, the Board stated that Dr. Sweeny’s leadership and vision
throughout his tenure at CNR has well positioned the College for growth
and
expansion in the 21st century.
Dr. Sweeny was inaugurated as 12th president of The College
of New Rochelle in 1997 for a four-year term, which was renewed in 2001
for a
second four years.

Chairperson of the CNR Board of Trustees, noted, “In this Centennial
year, we
are fortunate to have Dr. Sweeny’s continued dedication to fulfilling
the
mission of the College as a Catholic liberal arts, women’s college
servicing a
diverse constituency in Westchester and New York City. His steadfast
leadership, passion for women’s education and dedication to preserving
and
growing the institution has been impressive.”

Castle Gallery
Presents
The Weschester
Biennial 2004
The Westchester
Biennial, a juried all-media art exhibition
which is presented every two years at the Castle Gallery, will be open
this
year from April 25 through June 27. Since its inception in 1998, the
mission of
CNR’s Westchester Biennial has been to recognize the diversity and
innovation
of emerging and established artists who call Westchester
County
their home.

Exhibit
to Feature Alumnae/i Artists
In September, 2004, as a finale
to The College of New
Rochelle's Centennial Year Celebration, the Castle Gallery will open
its space
for a juried exhibition spotlighting the diverse imagery and talent of
the
College's alumnae/i artists.

SNR Associate Dean
Honored
Donna Torian Tyler SNR '89,
GS'93, Associate
Dean, SNR, was honored as one
of the 25 Most Influential Black Women in Business by The
Network Journal at a ceremony held in March at the Hilton Hotel
in Manhattan. Members of
Donna’s
family, Dean Elza Dinwiddie Boyd, and other members of the staff from
the
Dean’s office were on hand at the ceremony to congratulate her.

CNR Celebrates 100th Anniversary with
Gala Event
In
celebration of the its 100th anniversary and its commitment
to educating and empowering women and men, the College hosted a black
tie gala
on April 22 at Cipriani 42nd Street and paid tribute to Indra K. Nooyi,
President & CFO, PepsiCo, and alumna Sandra Priest Rose, Reading
Reform
Foundation of New York.

Truly Wisdom for Life…
a
Testament at age 80!
“I heard The School
of New Resources was offering classes in
my area, and I decided to enroll,” says Madeline Riley, a resident of
The
Rockaways, Brooklyn. “I thought it was about
time that I
got my college degree. After all, I turned 80 this year.” Ms. Riley is
the oldest
student attending CNR, and one of nearly forty students at this new CNR
Brooklyn Campus Extension Site at Far Rockaway.

Comes Together in Service to Others
From the impoverished border
towns of Matamoros, Mexico and
Brownsville, Texas, to a children’s residence in Harlem, and throughout
the
local community, The College of New Rochelle came together this
semester to
offer service to those in need.

Student Athletes
Recognized
at April Luncheon
On April 7, in recognition of
National Student Athlete Day,
the College hosted a luncheon on the Main Campus honoring its own
student
athletes (members of CNR’s Blue Angels Teams) who have a 3.0 or better
GPA. Eighteen of the 38 students
recognized attended the luncheon along with members of the Executive
Team,
faculty, and staff. Niki Reid, Assistant
Women’s Basketball Coach at Fordham
University
was the guest speaker. On the day of the luncheon, Blue Angels
conducted their
Centennial-related service project -- a book drive for new pre-school
and
primary school age books which were donated to the Adult Learning Center
of New Rochelle, an
Ursuline Social
Outreach Program, that conducts ESL classes.
SAS Student Athlete
Named All-Conference
Congratulations
to CNR Junior Danielle Hankinson who was
recently named as one of the 2003-2004 HVWAC All-Conference Team
(basketball)
by the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference. A business major who
plans to
become a CPA, Danielle credits her teammates with supporting her
throughout the
season and helping her to achieve her goal.
