Artists Competition

An awards ceremony and reception was
held on Sunday, November 13, 2005 for the 12th Annual High School Women
Artists Competition. This year's show was the largest in its 12-year
history, featuring the works of 121 artists
from 38 high schools throughout the United States. m o r e
Family Weekend 2005

The
College of New Rochelle hosted its annual Family Weekend from Friday,
November 4 through Sunday, November 6, 2005. The autumn tradition for
CNR students and their families provided opportunities to experience
campus life and to dine and socialize with other CNR families. m o r e

The Ursuline Institute
presented a panel discussion on religion and politics in Romita
Auditorium on Thursday,
November 17, 2005. The panel of CNR
faculty included (l. to r.) Pearl Sullivan, Coordinator of Retention
Systems at
the Co-op City Campus of the School of New Resources; Dr. Nelson
Ong, Associate Professor of
Political Sciences, School of Arts & Sciences; and Dr. Dennis Ryan,
Associate Professor of Religious Studies, School of Arts &
Sciences. The
two-hour panel presentation and discussion was one of many special
events presented by the Ursuline Institute.

Students Attend International Conference in Taiwan

Carrasquillo SN’08 and Megan Skrip SAS ’07 (second from right) joined
eighty-six
student leaders from twenty-three universities and eight different
countries who met to discuss issues of global concerns. Helen Wolf,
Director of Campus Ministry, accompanied the two CNR student
representatives to the International Student Leaders Symposium held at
the Wenzao Ursuline College of Languages in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in late

Coach to Academy Award
Winners
Meets Student Theatre
Ensemble on Main Campus

Acting coach to award winning actors and author of The Intent to Live: Achieving Your True
Potential as an Actor, Larry Moss, spoke in Romita Auditorium on
Monday evening, November 21, 2005. Mr. Moss, who has coached such
Academy Award winners as Helen Hunt and Hilary Swank, and is currently
directing the critically acclaimed play RFK in New York City, discussed the
craft of acting with members of CNR’s Student Theatre Ensemble.

Seniors from
the School of Nursing recently visited local high, middle, and grammar
schools, part of a five-week outreach effort to encourage students to

CNR Drama performs Cabaret

To mark its
centennial year season, the Dramatic Society of
The College of New Rochelle presented their Fall production of Cabaret in Romita Auditorium on
CNR’s Main Campus, November 4 - 12, 2005. The production was directed
by Laurie Peterson Castaldo, with choreography by Juan Borona and music
direction by Kurt Kelley. The majority of the 30 people in CNR’s cast
represented the College’s four schools.

Dr. Roblyn
Rawlins, Assistant Professor of Sociology and Chair of Women’s Studies
in the School of Arts & Sciences, recently published a chapter
entitled “Raising Precocious Children: Science And The Social Meaning
of Early Intellectual Development” in Science
In The Service Of The Child, edited by Julia Grant and Emily
Cahan and published by Columbia Teacher’s College Press.
In October, Dr.
Linda Swerdlow, Assistant Professor of Education in the School of Arts
& Sciences, published “Oral History Project: Bringing Students
Together,” in Middle Ground, the National Middle
School Association
journal. In November at the National Council for the Social Studies
conference, she presented a paper on “Vietnam Veterans’ Oral History
Project: A College Middle School Collaboration.”
Dr. Ann Raia,
Associate Professor of Classics in the School of Arts & Sciences,
co-authored The Worlds of Roman Women.
Published by Focus / R. Pullins, the book is a reader for Intermediate
Latin students at the high school and college level on the theme of
women in the ancient world.

The Westchester
Biennial 2006
April 2 – June 18,
2006
Castle Gallery’s Westchester Biennial will celebrate a
milestone this
year with its fifth biennial juried art exhibition. This exhibit,
which showcases recent work by emerging and established Westchester
County artists, was created in 1998 in an attempt to recognize the
diversity and innovation of artists who call Westchester County their
home. The work selected must be new work created in the last two
years. This exhibition is unique, as it is the only venue of its
kind,
open exclusively to Westchester artists. Deadline for submissions is February 3,

Graduate Named Pelham, New York 2005 Man of the Year
The Pelham
Civic Association has selected Donald Paglieri GS’88 as their
2005
Man of the Year. Mr. Paglieri has assumed leadership positions in many
of Pelham's most important community activities. He is also active in
Pelham’s St. Catharine's parish, where he is a Eucharistic Minister and
a leader and organizer of many parish events.

for a CNR Scholarship
The College of New Rochelle is inviting CNR alumnae/i, to nominate a
graduating high school senior to be the recipient of an Alumnae/i Award
for study at CNR beginning in the fall of 2006. The total award for
four years is $32,000 for a resident student and $20,000 for a student
who chooses to be a commuter. Please click
