College Community gathers to celebrate

the First Stages of Construction of The Wellness Center

Dr. Stephen J. Sweeny and the Office of Campus Ministry led members of the College Community in a Prayer Service of New Beginnings at the Wellness Center Site on Monday, June 19. More than 200 members of the CNR Community joined in this special blessing at the site of the Wellness Center.

Joining President Sweeny in this blessing were Campus Ministry Director Helen Wolf; Father Joseph Flynn, OFM Cap, Chaplain; Dean Elza Dinwiddie-Boyd of the School of New Resources; Dean Donna Demarest of the School of Nursing; Marga Taylor, Assistant Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences; Kari Black, Assistant to the Dean of the Graduate School; Mona Steward, Staff Assistant at the School of New Resources Brooklyn Campus; and Ericka Streeter, Administrative Assistant at the School of New Resources Rosa Parks Campus.

Also attending the service were Michael Cuomo, President of Appleby Construction Management, who is our "owners’ representative," and  Joie Machado, Project Engineer for Andron Construction, the firm that will be building the Wellness Center.

When completed, CNR’s interdisciplinary center will integrate all aspects of health and wellness education in a holistic manner. The ecological design of the building as a metaphor for wellness will be eligible for certification by the U.S. Green Building Council under its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
