Reserved for more formal ceremonies, communications,
diplomas, and certificates, the seal is symbolic of the College’s high
values and ideals. Upon the seal appear items specific to the
history of the College – the open book, reflecting devotion to
intellectual disciplines; the burning torch, a symbol of the faith
which illuminates and guides; the ship, illustrating the vessel upon
which the first settlers of the City came from La Rochelle; and laurel
leaves, representing the Ursula
Laurus, the traditional symbol of Ursuline students for more
than four centuries. Circumscribing the whole, the name Collegium Novae Rupellae
personalizes the seal and expresses anew the nature of the institution
– a college that is a seat of learning and a gathering place for
scholars.
